コミタス・ヴァダペットについてのノート
コミタスの「Divine Liturgy」(写真上の中央)と出会ったのは、
もう１０年くらい前になるだろうか。
なんとなくジャケット写真に惹かれて買たのだけど、
実はその風景に既視感が存在していたことに気づかずにいた。
Divine Liturgy とは聖餐の意味で、聴こえるのはシンプルで荘厳な宗教音楽。
この音楽は、ちょっと並じゃない密度と強度を感じさせる。
対位法や旋律の構造がどうのこうのという問題ではない。
メロディーの力？ うたの力？ そうかもしれない。
でもそのような説明で事足りるとはとうてい思えない。
今まで親しんできた音楽は、音楽として安心して聴けるのだが、
どうもそこまでの話で、それは音楽でしかないというか。
神がかり的に完成度の高い音楽というのは様々あるが、
そういう次元でもない。
人の手によるものというより、勝手に一人で地面から生えてきたような音楽。
その後この写真の建物が、アルメニアのサナイン修道院という
文化遺産であることを知る。
そしてこの修道院の風景は、パラジャーノフの「ざくろの色」で
もともとしっかり脳裏に焼きついていたものだった。
映画をみなおすと、コミタスの音楽も鳴り響いていた。
KOMITAS VARDAPET(1869-1935)
本名をソゴモン・ソゴモニアンという。
コミタスは、アルメニアの大建築家・音楽家のコミタス（ゴミダス）にあやかり、
ヴァタベッドは修道僧の称号。
修道士であり、アルメニアの音楽の父とも呼ばれる。
精力的に民謡を収集し、当時の蝋管録音も残っている。
この残されたアルメニア民謡が、とてつもなく心に響く。
１９１５年のトルコによるアルメニア人大虐殺で、
コミタスは生き延びるが、その後の２０年間を精神病院で過ごす。
